Adult Volunteers

If you are over the age of 18 and are interested in becoming a consistent pantry volunteer, please fill out and print the Adult Volunteer Application and then call Valerie @ 845-496-2119;  She will arrange a “tour” and interview at the pantry on a Non-Distribution Wednesday between 10am-11am.  Thank you!

Student Volunteers

If you are a High School student, we would love to have you volunteer.

Students generally arrive at the pantry after school hours.

Please note, however, that once 10 volunteers have signed in, the pantry will be filled to capacity and you will be asked to return at another time.

All student volunteers are also asked to sign a  Student Volunteer Pledge of Service, which is printed below for you to read but available at the pantry to sign. Though you sign this pledge only once, we keep it on record and expect you to abide by it.

During the winter months, you must wear a coat and gloves if you wish to volunteer because you may be outdoors for a good portion of the afternoon.  Those without coats will not be allowed to volunteer.

Student volunteers help distribute food, assist clients with their bags and shopping carts, and break down boxes. Every student volunteer earns Community Service Hours, so make sure to sign our Student Volunteer Notebook when you arrive.

Please remember:

The Pantry operates throughout the summer months. You are always welcome to volunteer in July & August.  We are usually short-staffed during these two months. You can also accrue more hours by arriving as early as 9am and staying, if possible, for the entire day.

Student Volunteer Pledge of Service to the Country Kids Food Pantry

Please read this pledge in its entirety and sign below only if you feel you can keep this pledge.  If you cannot honor this pledge, then you must find a different type of community service.

The Country Kids Food Pantry provides food to approximately 120 families twice a month.  It is run solely on volunteers, who work diligently throughout the 9 hours of operation, showing respect for those they have come to help.  There is no time to “mess” around, talk and text on cell phones, or to lounge in the dining area.  For student volunteers looking to help and accrue community service hours, the same work ethic is expected of them. Therefore, the following will henceforth be expected of every student volunteer:

  1. You will wear a name tag; adult volunteers will be able to call you by name; and Derek, Lisa, and Val will be assessing how well you help.

  2. Cell phones must be put away once you arrive at the pantry.  There will be no texting or phone calls allowed until the end of the afternoon.

  3. No lounging in the dining area.  You have come to work.  Snacks and water may be taken from the dining room back to the station to which you are assigned.

  4. Messing around, such as running through the building or parking lot will not be tolerated.

  5. If you have not been assigned a place to work, there are three tasks that ALWAYS need to be accomplished:

    1. Make yourself available to assist clients with their bags and help them to their cars.

    2. Break down boxes.

    3. Retrieve and return shopping carts.
